Often bloodworms are mistaken as the larvae of mosquitoes, however there are several structural and behavioural differences between both of them.
First of all, adult bloodworm lacks of elongated biting mouthpart, while the mosquito larva has a biting mouth.
Next, mosquito larva mostly inhabit on the surface layer of water, in the contrary, the bloodworm are founded moslty inhabiting in the bottom layers of silts of aquatic environment and do not live near the water surface for purposes of breathing.
Futhermore, mosquito larva arent red and they are not really "worm-like".
Lastly, in terms of nutrition, Bloodworms have a slightly more protein compare to mosquito larva.
